Scotland's preparations for Saturday's Six Nations match against Wales suffered a setback when Nathan Hines was ruled out of the Cardiff clash with calf and ankle injuries.
The Leinster lock will be replaced at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday by Edinburgh's Jim Hamilton, who has been brought in ahead of Glasgow's Richie Gray, who was already on the bench.
Scotland team doctor James Robson said: "Nathan suffered a calf strain and aggravated an old ankle injury during the match at the weekend.
"Whilst the injury has settled considerably, it is not at a level adequate for exposure to the rigours of Test match rugby and therefore Nathan is withdrawn from selection."
Head coach Andy Robinson said Hamilton's experience had got him the nod ahead of Gray.
"We're going with Jim as he's our like-for-like with Nathan and will help us to get a platform should we look to get our mauling game going," Robinson said.
"Jim is also an experienced player."
Hines' withdrawal brings to four the number of changes from the Scotland XV that started Sunday's 18-9 defeat by France.
Flyhalf Dan Parks, prop Euan Murray and wing Rory Lamont have all been recalled for the clash with Wales, who are looking to bounce back from a 30-17 defeat by England in their opener.
