Scotland's Thom Evans was taken to hospital with what coach Andy Robinson said was a "serious" back injury sustained during his side's 31-24 Six Nations defeat by Wales on Saturday.
Evans was taken off on a stretcher shortly before half-time at the Millennium Stadium after a collision with Wales full-back Lee Byrne where the wing also appeared to be hit from behind by other covering Welsh players.
The grave tone of Robinson's comments suggested Evans had suffered severe damage, with the coach saying: "We've got a serious injury with Thom Evans, who has hurt his back and is currently in hospoital.
"We think it's very serious, his parents are with him and our thoughts with him," former England boss Robinson added.
